All Muck And Magic

This last week we have been cracking on with spreading compost with a rather clever piece of equipment made by an Amish company, from the United States, where they have continued to use small scale cultivation techniques. The implement is a ground drive muck spreader; so instead of having a PTO (power take-off), the power is taken from the moving wheels.
We can use the machine with the horses or the tractor and it will come in very useful throughout the year to help us spread, muck, compost, lime and organic fertilisers.

In between the showers we have been cultivating and planting up, it has been quite a balancing act this last few weeks! We are working towards having more of our own crops for more of the year. Over the last few days we have planted out spinach, chard, land cress and dwarf French beans.

A word about the humble potato

Blight has come to Blighty good and proper this year and we have been taking measures to ensure that our new crop of Bambino salad potatoes remain free of the dreaded scourge. Farmers across the UK are falling foul to blight this year, due to the recent warm and wet conditions. We apologise to those of you who may have received any that were bad from us last week.
For those of you with your own vegetable crops and those wishing to know a bit more about blight go to www.potato.org.uk/blight
