National Lottery Application
Below is the text for the first stage National Lottery application submitted in August 2009, for £238 000. Trevalon has now been invited to submit a full application. Over the next few months we will be consulting with customers to develop our bid.
"Trevalon is an 18 acre farm. It was purchased in 2005 by Orchard Land Trust Ltd with the intention of setting up a community food project. Part of the land is used to grow organic vegetables for a box scheme delivering to 80 customers a week.
A grant has been obtained to convert the current business, to a Community Supported Agriculture Scheme, incorporated as an IPS for the benefit of the community.
Investment for the land purchase and vegetable growing has come from customers of the box scheme and volunteer labor is provided by some customers in exchange for a weekly vegetable box. Two open days, a tree planting day, school and group visits and a work placement from Duchy College have taken place over the last three years.
With three years experience and an established customer base the project is ready to expand the number of people that benefit from the project and formally involve the community in decision making, land management and food growing.
The project intends to expand the number of vegetable boxes delivered to 200 per week and target local families to join the CSA and become involved in work shops, work days, food themed events, open days, informal training and accredited education.
